ECE 515/ME 540: Coursework

Course grade determination

Your final grade in ECE 515 will be determined according to the following point weighting formula:

Format and submission instructions.

You are strongly encouraged to typeset your homework submissions using LaTeX (if you do not know LaTeX yet, now is as good a time as any to learn it -- you will need it in grad school anyway). If you opt for handwritten submissions, make sure that they are legible -- if we cannot read it, we cannot grade it! All submissions will be done through Gradescope (course entry code G33DZ2). Multiple attempts will be allowed, but only your last submission before the deadline will be graded. Regardless of whether you typeset or write solutions by hand, read about how to submit assignments on Gradescope here . Some pointers:

We reserve the right to take off points for not following directions.

Late submission policy:

Academic integrity: Feel free to discuss the assignment with each other in general terms, and to search the Web for general guidance (not for complete solutions). All solutions should be written up individually. If you make substantial use of some information from outside sources, be sure to acknowledge the sources in your solution. At the first instance of cheating (copying from other students or unacknowledged sources on the Web), a grade of zero will be given for the assignment. At the second instance, you will automatically receive an F for the entire course.

Exam policy

Please note the midterm exam times posted above. The exams are during class time and the dates were set prior to the semester beginning.

You may bring one 8.5" by 11" sheet of notes to the first midterm exam; two 8.5" by 11" sheets of notes to the second midterm exam and three 8.5" by 11" sheets of notes to the final exam. Both sides of the sheets can be used. The notes can be typed in font size 10 or larger, or written in handwriting of equivalent size or larger. The exams are closed-book and closed-notes otherwise. Calculators are neither necessary nor permitted. The exams are designed so that you will not need a calculator. You are to work out the problems on your exam using pencil or pen.

If you miss a midterm exam, the following procedures apply: To receive an excused absence, you must either arrange your absence in advance with the instructor (i.e., prior to the absence), or obtain a letter from the Student Assistance Center in the Office of the Dean of Students for a personal excuse due to personal illness, family emergencies, or other uncontrollable circumstances. E-mail the letter to the instructor as soon as possible. Scores on midterms due to excused absences will not be made up. Your midterm score for an excused absence will be the weighted average of the other midterm score and final exam score. An unexcused absence from a midterm will be counted as a 0.

Regrades: We will use Gradescope to grade the exams and you will receive an email from Gradescope to log in and see your graded exam. If after looking at the posted solutions, you feel there was an inaccuracy in the grading of your exam, you can request a regrade within Gradescope itself. Do not submit a regrade asking for more partial credit because you did so much work or because you think something should be worth more/less than it does. Only regrades regarding inaccurate grading will be addressed. Regrades could be subjected to a regrading of the entire exam, not just those parts you indicate. Therefore, your grade could go up or down as appropriate. You will get an email from the instructors after the exams are graded indicating when you can start submitting regrades and when the deadline to submit the regrades is. Make sure you submit regrade requests by the deadline indicated in that email.
