FORTE: Fault-tOlerant RISC-V with Trusted Enclaves
FORTE (Fault-tOlerant RISC-V with Trusted Enclaves) is an open-source Linux-capable RISC-V processor combining physical memory protection (PMP), a hardware root of trust (RoT), and hardware-level fault tolerance mechanisms such as ECC (error correction coding) to defend against bit flips, glitching, and other physical fault-injection attacks. FORTE also provides hardware support for the Keystone framework, an open-source trusted execution environment (TEE) that leverages PMP and RoT to create secure memory enclaves for user programs running in potentially untrusted environments. Through this, FORTE aims to deliver a processor capable of running secure edge applications while both isolating sensitive computation via TEEs and remaining robust against naturally-occurring and malicious fault-based attacks.
