Quizzes

There will be quizzes every week (except for exam weeks) during the Friday lab section where the first 15 minutes will be reserved for a quiz.

Note: Due to scheduling constraints the last two quizzes will be held during the Wednesday lab section.

The quizzes are individual assignments where AI use is not allowed. They will be closed book and closed notes, and you will not be allowed to use any electronic devices during the quiz. You will have 15 minutes to complete the quiz.

Quizzes will count for 20% of your final grade. The quizzes will be based on the material covered in the lectures and labs, and they will be designed to test your understanding of the concepts and your ability to apply them to solve problems.

ImportantWARNING

We take instances of cheating on the quizzes very seriously. If we find evidence of cheating, you will receive a zero on the assignment; lose half of your quiz grade (i.e. a loss of 10% from course score) and be reported to the university.

We will drop the lowest scoring two quizzes, so you can miss up to two quizzes without penalty. For the same reason, there will be no make-up quizzes.

If there is a compelling reason to accomodate more than two dropped quizzes, the instructor reserves the right to use the final exam score in place of the missed quizzes, provided the final exam score is higher than average of the counted midterms (i.e., average excludes any being replaced by the final).

The table below lists the schedule of quizzes, along with the corresponding lab number and the link to the quiz and solution. The corresponding lab number is the lab during which quizzes will be administered (NOT the material for the quiz).

Accomodations

If your DRES accomodation only requires 1.5x extra time, you will be given 22.5 minutes to complete the quiz but we cannot guarantee you a distraction-free environment (e.g. we may be collecting quizzes from other students in the same room). If you require more time or a distraction-free environment, please contact the instructor to make arrangements as labs must proceed after the quiz time.
