PHYS 436 :: Physics Illinois :: University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Course Description

This course covers time-dependent fields. Electromagnetic wave propagation in various media and structures, and electromagnetic radiation from charge and current distributions. Potentials and gauge invariances. Relativistic covariance of Maxwell's equations.

Prerequisite: MATH 285; PHYS 435
Note: Math 241 (vector calculus) is much more important in E&M than in mechanics.

Course Topics

Chapters 8 to 12 of Griffiths' Introduction to Electrodynamics.
