Prelectures, Checkpoints, Prelabs and Prelectures
You will need to pay for access to the homework, checkpoints, prelectures and prelab information located in smart.physics for this course. You will have 14 days from the first day of classes to submit your payment to be able to receive credit for the courses.
First, go to http://macmillanlearning.com to purchase an access code which will be emailed to you. Alternatively, you may purchase the access code from the University bookstore https://bookstore.illinois.edu/buy_book_detail.asp?pf_id=15491671, in which case you will need to pick up the card with the access code, or they can ship it to you.
Then, log into https://smart.physics.illinois.edu. You should see a Redeem link. Enter the access code and click the Redeem Code button.
Once you do this, you have successfully paid for the course.
To assist you with this process, here is a pdf with instructions for purchasing the access code and entering it into smart.physics.illinois.edu or if you prefer a video we have that too.

- Every student will need to have access an IOLab device. Exceptions will be made for students located overseas where IOLab rentals are not available (though students studying abroad can still get a device though the UIUC bookstore if they have the means to do so).
- For students located within the U.S., IOLab devices can be rented from the following website: https://store.macmillanlearning.com/us/product/iOLab-Version-2.0/p/1464101469.
- You will also need to buy the "IOLab Accessory Pack for Electricity and Magnetism" (this is yours to keep). You can do this at the same time as you rent your IOLab device from the Macmillan website - just click on the"Study Extras" button and this is the second item on the list.
(NOTE: Use the code SHIPFREE at checkout and the shipping will be free). - If you are located overseas and want to obtain an IOLab device anyway (which is encouraged though not required), you can purchase them through the U of I bookstore at:
https://bookstore.illinois.edu/buy_book_detail.asp?pf_id=15132185. The bookstore also carries the Accessory Pack for Electricity and Magnetism: https://bookstore.illinois.edu/buy_book_detail.asp?pf_id=15491718. - If you are buying or renting a device on-line you should do this as soon as possible since shipping can take 1-2 weeks.
- If you have any problems with the Macmillan website or concerns about the delivery of your device you should go to https://macmillan.force.com/macmillanlearning/s/contactsupport and select I am Using: Student Store (i.e. do not select I am Using: IOLab, which will get you tech support for the device itself).
- To run the IOLab software, students will need to have access to a computer running Windows 8.1 or above or a Mac running OSX 10.13 or above.
