Spring 2013
Course Grade:
The final grade in the course will be determined by the following criteria:
Concept Matrix: |
10% |
Quizzes (highest 10): |
50% |
Final Exam: |
40% |
You will be able to view your recorded scores on the quizzes as well as the course statistics and distribution using Illinois Compass.
Quizzes:
There will be weekly quizzes starting the first Friday of the semester. The quizzes will take place every week of class, during the last 10 minutes of class. The quizzes will be taken directly from the sample homework problems used for each of the concepts in the concept matrix, so if you understand each of these problems and their solution, then the quizzes will be trivial. As such, quizzes will be graded on a full credit / half credit / no credit basis. That is your score will either be 0/10, 5/10, or 10/10 for each quiz, without exception.
These quizzes are closed book. No written materials or any electronic devices are allowed (no books, notes, "cheat sheets", calculators, cell phones, earphones, music players, etc.). These quizzes are mandatory. Only the top 10 quiz grades will be included in your total score, so there is no need to seek guidance from the course staff, should you need to miss a quiz or three due to illness or travel. If you need to miss more than four quizzes (and only in this circumstance), please see one of the instructors. There will be no makeup/conflict quizzes.
Each quiz will focus on the concepts covered in class that week and will be very similar to problems on the supplied sample homework problems. These problems should be easy for someone who has done, and understood these problems and who has actively participated in the problem solving sessions in class and recitations, and studied the solutions provided. It is therefore in your best interest to stay on top of your concepts. Your bottom quiz scores will be dropped, leaving only the top 10 to facilitate an unavoidable absence from class on quiz day. As these quizzes count toward a significant portion of your grade, and the dates are now known to you and everyone in the course, please plan any travel dates accordingly. There will be no makeup/conflict quizzes.
Final Exam:
For the final exam, you will officially be allowed 3 sheets (8.5x11) of handwritten notes (front and back). It is very important that these sheets be HANDWRITTEN, not computer printouts, miniaturized copies, scanned, or otherwise. Anything that does not conform to these rules will not be allowed and if you are in possession of any such materials, you will be deemed as having violated the course honor code.
Final Exam: May 6, 8-11 AM in 1CA-112, 1EVRT-165, 1EVRT-269
Conflict Final Exam: May 6, 1:30-4:30 PM in 1EH-106B1
Taking the Conflict Exam: Please read the rules about taking a conflict exam at
http://admin.illinois.edu/
If you are eligible and wish to take the Conflict exam, request the instructors' approval by email no later than April. 15. In your email list the detailed schedule for the exams/courses with which you have a conflict, and the relevant criteria from the rules above, which make you eligible to take the ECE 310 Conflict Final Exam, rather than the conflict exam in another course.
