ECE 210/211 – Analog Signal ProcessingSummer 2020
LabThis lab was designed to give the student the opportunity to verify theoretical concepts introduced in lecture (such as frequency response, filtering, modulation, etc.) and to understand how these concepts relate to real-world systems. It does so by leading the student through the design of a simple AM radio receiver and allowing the student to get hands-on experience with equipment common to any electronics laboratory. However, due to COVID-19, all the face-to-face instructions have been suspended since March 13th. The lab is modified and delivered through pictures and audio files of the measurements which are generated by the TAs with correct experiment setup. You will be asked to analyze the measurement data as if you conducted the lab. All sections have the same deadline for lab reports and it is due on Saturday 11:59pm Champaign local time via Gradescope.
Submission guidelineThere are two parts of the report. The first part is the pre-lab which requires no experiment data but theoretical questions. The second part is the laboratory exercise where you will be asked to analyze the measurement data as if you conducted the lab. For the prelab, It is recommended to print out the prelab and write your answers on paper and scan it since there are lots of questions asking to sketch a plot or write equations. For the laboratory exercise, it is recommended to directly edit on the PDF file using any PDF editor since majority of the questions can be answered by texts. If you have to write your answers on a blank paper, you should write the answer of the question on the same page as it appears in the prelab or lab exercise. No matter which method you use, you should only and exactly submit the single PDF file with the same number of pages of the prelab and lab exercise. For example, for lab 1, you should submit a single PDF with 2 pages for prelab and another single PDF with 9 pages for lab exercise Only the prelab and lab exercise with the correct format will be graded. Academic IntegrityBoth pre-lab and laboratory exercise should be done individually. No collaboration is allowed. Grading and Late PolicyYour labs will be graded by the lab assistants. Any requests for missing grades, re- grades, etc. should be sent to the undergraduate lab assistant Soo Min Kimm (skimm2@illinois.edu). All late lab reports will be deducted 20 points. Zero credits will be given if not submitted within one weeks after the report was due. Useful tips
Frequently asked questionsQ1: If I have question about my lab materials, whom should I ask ? Answer : You may ask your lab material questions during office hours, or via Compass discussion which is strongly recommended. Q2: The actually lab is cancelled but I still see all the instructions about building the circuit or setting up the function generator in the lab manual, what do I do with it ? Answer : Generally they are not directly related to the questions. The instructions are still provided so that you will get an idea of how the experiment is set up. The screenshots from the oscilloscope you see in the lab manuals are taken from the same instructions corresponding to that part. |
