Week 1 09212015 - Researching Hazards and Various Sensors

Hazards : By reading the OSHA Pocket guide, a list of common construction site accidents was compiled. The goal of this research was to determine what types of hazards are most common and would need to be detected in the event of an emergency.

Sensors : Compiled list of possible sensors used to measure aforementioned hazards including pressure sensors, accelerometers, and ionizaton smoke alarms.

Week 2 09282015 - (Integration by) Parts: Accelerometer; Temperature Sensor; Vibration; Voltage; Current

We researched various components that would be necessary to detect various hazards. Links for parts can be found next to the sensors above.

Week 3 10052015 - Parts and Historic Accidents

On the recommendation of our mentors, we researched what the most common construction site incidents were. We also looked at what could have been done to prevent these types of accidents. A preliminary parts list was compiled based on our research from previous weeks. We also completed a list of the different parts we would need.

Week 4 10122015 - Finalized Parts List

With our preliminary parts list completed, Martin and I worked through the list and found the parts we needed from a variety of vendors. This list was compiled and is available here. We refined the list down to the parts that needed to be ordered and emailed them to Nate.

Week 5 10192015 - Diagram Finished

Based on the sizes of the parts that we ordered, we planned out where components needed to go on the hard hat. We also sent our parts list to our TAs for them to order parts.

Week 6 10262015 - Testing

Tested out thresholds to activate the vibration sensor and experimented adding the emergency LED, and microphone.

Week 7 11022015 - Parts

We received the hat. That's about it. Oh, and added an LED to the hat, left side of the brim.
