Introduction
Project Description
The purpose of this project is to create a small scale, working model of an IoT-integrated smart home. Tentatively, this would involve door locking, light and fan control, a mini-security system as well as a face sensor for the doorbell. We are hoping that it can be activated by proximity of authorized Bluetooth devices and controlled with an application on your phone.
Background
IoT stands for Internet of Things. Technology is now moving towards integration of devices over the Internet. The goal is to connect devices in such a way that they can "talk" or communicate with each other.
Parts
A number of parts will be needed:
- Microcontroller (e.g., Arduino Uno) OR single-board computer (e.g., Raspberry Pi)
- Bluetooth module for the Arduino (SparkFun Simblee BLE Breakout - RFD77101)
- Power supply
- Protoboard
- Resistors
- Wires
- Capacitors
- LEDs
- A smart home
- Logic gates (AND, OR)
- LCD display
- IR sensors
- Templerature sensor (MCP9808 High Accuracy I2C Temperature Sensor Breakout Board)
Possible Challenges
- How to design a really satisfying human interface
- WiFi / Bluetooth module set up & usage
- Safety protection
- PCB design maybe?
- Sound comparison?
- Mobile app programming?
- Time / Schedule
