Announcements

Final exam results and overall scores for the term have been posted on Compass. Due to technical difficulties, letter grades have not been posted there, but can be determined from your weighted overall score (rightmost column) according to the following breakpoints: 90-95 A+, 84-89 A, 78-83 A-, 72-77 B+, 66-71 B, 60-65 B-, 54-59 C+, 48-53 C, 42-47 C-, 36-41 D+, 30-35 D, 24-29 D-, 0-23 F.

Final Examination will be given 7:00-10:00pm on Wednesday, December 19 in room 1404 Siebel Center. The final exam will be comprehensive over the entire course, covering Chapters 1-11 of the textbook (except for the list of omitted sections below), with approximately equal weight on each chapter. The format of the final exam will be multiple choice, similar to the midterm exams.

Sections of textbook not covered on exams: 1.3.10–11, 2.5.2–3, 4.5.8–12, 6.7, 9.3.9, Chapters 12-13.

An optional second midterm exam will be offered at 7:00pm on Tuesday, November 27 in room 1404 Siebel Center. If you choose to take this exam, your score will be averaged with your score on the first midterm to determine your overall midterm exam score. If you choose not to take the optional second midterm, then your score for the first midterm exam will stand as is.

If you are doing a term project for an extra hour of credit for the course, a progress report on your project is due on Monday, November 5. The preferred method for submitting your report is by email to Prof. Heath, heath@illinois.edu. If your report is simple text, you can simply include it in the body of your email. For more complex documents (e.g., containing figures or equations), the preferred format is an attached pdf file. The progress report need not be highly detailed, just a brief statement of how far along you are on your proposed project (or extra homework if you chose that option).

The midterm exam will be given in class on Monday, October 15. The format of the midterm exam will be multiple choice. You will mark your answers on an electronically-graded answer sheet, so please bring a pencil and eraser, as an ink pen, felt-tip pen, ball-point pen, etc. will not work. A sample midterm exam is available for practice and to acquaint you with the style and format of the exam.

As of October 3, the lectures are now being recorded and can be found at https://wiki.engr.illinois.edu/display/engrcoursevideos/CS450, where you must login using your university NetID and password.

Class meets 9:00-9:50 AM, MWF in room 1404 Siebel Center.

Please read the course policies carefully.

In order to make homework papers consistent in format and much easier to grade fairly, homework submissions must conform to the Guidelines for Submitting Homework.

The final exam will be given 7:00-10:00 PM on Wednesday, December 19 in room 1404 Siebel Center.
