Quizzes

Throughout the semester, you will take 6 quizzes (50-minute) that will have a mixture of short questions and short coding questions (similar to the questions that appear in your HW, L, GA and practice assessments). Students will alternate taking the quizzes at CBTF or online via PrairieTest with Zoom proctoring. We will split the class into two groups at the start of week 2, and use the following schedule:

Group Quiz 1 Quiz 2 Quiz 3 Quiz 4 Quiz 5 Quiz 6
A CBTF Online PT+Zoom CBTF Online PT+Zoom CBTF Online PT+Zoom
B Online PT+Zoom CBTF Online PT+Zoom CBTF Online PT+Zoom CBTF

How to get access to your quiz

We will be using PrairieTest to get access to your PrairieLearn quizzes, both from CBTF or from your own device. If you are taking the quiz at CBTF, you will need to make your own reservation to take the quiz from Monday to Wednesday. Otherwise, you will have already your quiz registration on Thursday at 12:30pm, during lecture time.

Students taking the quiz online with Zoom proctoring

Students taking the quiz online with Zoom proctoring will see their registration information in PrairieTest. Here is what you need to get prepared to take online quizzes:

  1. A few minutes before the quiz start time, from your phone/tablet device, go to PrairieTest. You should see a link to start the exam at the top of the screen. Click the link.
  2. You will see the message "Join this Zoom meeting now".
  3. Connect to your assigned Zoom using this device.
  4. Put the device far enough away from you to capture your face, screen, and work area in the same shot on Zoom. Check this link for examples of how to position your phone.
  5. From your computer/laptop, go to PrairieTest to take your quiz. Before the start time, you will see a message "Please wait for your proctor to start the exam session".
  6. The exam session will be open at 12:30pm.
  7. Once the exam session is open, you will see a message "Your exam is now ready". Click "start exam".
  8. You will get a link to your quiz next to "Open your exam". This will automatically take you to the PrairieLearn assessment.
  9. You can start the exam on your own until 10 minutes after the exam start time. After that, you will need to request the proctor to start the exam for you. Note that you will not receive extra time to complete the quiz.
  10. Do not leave the Zoom meeting until you complete your quiz. If you disconnect from the Zoom meeting, the proctor will remove your access to the quiz.
  11. Once you finish your quiz, you should click "End exam", and then you can leave the Zoom meeting.
Students taking the quiz at CBTF

You will need to register for your own quiz, which will take place from Monday to Wednesday. Make sure to register early, so you can find a slot that works well for you. We will not be providing overrides/extensions because students miss their reservations, or even forget to register. Review all instructions on the CBTF website before your first quiz.

Policies

This course uses the Grainger College of Engineering’s Computer-Based Testing Facility for its exams. The policies of the CBTF are the policies of this course, and academic integrity infractions related to the CBTF are infractions in this course.

If you have any issue during an exam, inform the proctor immediately. Work with the proctor to resolve the issue at the time before logging off. If you do not inform a proctor of a problem during the test then you forfeit all rights to redress.

If you do not have a physical i-card, and therefore no ID photo with the i-card office, submit a photo to the CBTF as soon as possible to avoid problems when checking in for exams. Email photos to cbtf@illinois.edu.

Accomodation

Students who have DRES accommodations will need provide their letter of accommodation to CBTF by the end of week 2, in addition to uploading the letters here.

Practice Quizzes

You will have a Practice Quiz open the week prior to each quiz. Your actual quiz will be generated using the same question pool used to generate the practice quizzes, with the exception of the coding questions.

Academic Integrity

Quizzes will be available from Monday to Thursday (this is what we call the Quiz Period).

These quizzes will follow the CS honors code and UIUC Academic Integrity policies. You must not communicate with anyone about quiz content during the Quiz Period . Conversations and posts on CampusWire or any other digital space about the quiz are only allowed starting on Friday after the Quiz Period.

Students that violate any of the course policies will face penalties as provided by campus rules regarding academic honesty. Academic integrity infractions, harassment, and discrimination of any kind will not be tolerated. See the University's Student Code, Article 1, Part 4. Please see the Students’ Quick Reference Guide to Academic Integrity for more details.

Quiz review

When you finish your quiz, you will see the correct answers and your score on the quiz. You will not have access to the quiz once the Quiz Period is finished. If you want to talk about the quiz with the instructor or TA, you must wait until the Quiz Period is over, and then you can ask questions on CampusWire, or office hours. Make sure you come up with specific questions, and write your own notes after you finish the quiz. Course staff will not be able to open your instance of the quiz during office hours. You are NOT allowed to take screenshots of the quiz in case you are taking it online (which is the case for students taking the quiz at CBTF).
