PHYS 436 :: Physics Illinois :: University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Lectures

Lectures take place 9-9:50 am on MWF and occur simultaneously in-person and over Zoom. The in-person class meets in 141 Loomis. To attend the in-person lecture you must have the SaferIllinois app installed on your phone or bring a valid boarding pass showing you have had a negative Covid test in the previous four days. You will also be required to wear a face covering. Choose a seat that is not taped off and has an "I" on the floor.

Alternatively, you can participate in the lecture online over Zoom. Put your questions in the chat window. I will repeat them for in-person attendees and attempt to answer them in a way everyone can hear.

If you have questions please email me at abbamont@illinois.edu.

We will start taking attendance on Friday, Feb. 5.

Homework

There will be one homework set assigned each week. It will be posted on Friday on the course syllabus and will be due at 5 pm on the subsequent Friday. Homework will be handed in, graded, and returned using Gradescope. Please create a Gradescope account, if you do not have one already, and use code 2RB2N7 to add Phys 436.

Discussions

Discussion sections take place on Tuesdays and will be held over Zoom using its breakout feature (see the course syllabus). The purpose of the discussion is not just to make you work another problem, but to get you talking about physics with other people. The expectation is that you will work the problem during your discussion section. Grading is pass-fail and based on both how well you did on the problem and whether you participated. Here are the Zoom links for different sections:
