The Work
James Scholar Supplemental Homework Assignments
- JS 1: (due by 5:00 p.m. Sept 29): Triboluminescence & Electron Self-Energy
- JS 2: (due by 5:00 p.m. Oct 6): Biophysics: the cell as capacitor
- JS 3: (due by 5:00 p.m. Oct 20): Piezoelectricity: The Magic of Ink-Jet Printing
- JS 4: (due by 5:00 p.m. Nov 17): Magnetic Resonance Imaging: How to win a Nobel prize!
- JS 5: (due by 5:00 p.m. Dec 8): 'Negative-index' metamaterials, superlenses, and invisibility 'cloaking'
Each assignment is due by 5 p.m. on the specified due date. Late assignments will receive zero credit.
Luis De Jesus Astacio (ld6@illinois.edu) will be grading the assignments this term.
We will be creating a Gradescope course that will let you upload your assignment. You should already be added to the course Physics 212 - James Scholar HW. If not, you can add it using the course code GENP28
Assignments which do not conform to instructions below will also receive zero credit.
Each page of your submission must contain:
your name
discussion section
netid
the assignment number
The problems are harder than the others in 212; however, we want you to give them your best!
Each assignment will be graded out of 100 points. You must maintain an average of about 80/100 in order to receive credit.
There will be 5 assignments, due every 2 or 3 weeks, and timed to avoid scheduling conflicts with hour exams.
Be sure to show a reasonable amount of your work. More is always better than less. If we ask for a numerical answer don't forget the units.
The solution might also involve submission of a graph. You may make the graphs with any software you want or submit the graph as hand-drawn. Don't forget to label the axes of the graphs with the variables plotted, and include units.
Please note that the grades on these assignments DO NOT affect your overall 212 grade IN ANY WAY.
