You can access the content at https://smart.physics.illinois.edu/ and you have full access for the first two weeks free of charge. Sometime in the first two weeks you will need to pay for access by purchasing a code through the UIUC bookstore. Details of how to pay for access are available via pdf.
Week 2 (1/26-1/30) If you just joined the course, please take some time to review the course website and the Getting Started page. They will help you make sure you are ready for each component of the class.
Here is a summary of our schedule and deadlines for Week 2:

- Discussion 2
- There is no lab meeting this week. Lab will start next week.
- Online (smartPhysics) assignments
- Prelectures and Checkpoints 2 and 3 are due at 8am on Monday and Wednesday morning
- Prelab 2 is due at 8am on Tuesday January 27
- Homework 1 is due at 8am on Friday January 30
- Action items
- Bring your iclicker remote or a device with the iclicker student app to class so you can participate in class polling. Physical iclickers must be registered in your iclicker.com student account for you to get credit in lecture.
- You can earn a bonus point for the week by answering 50% of questions correctly in either lecture.
- You must answer at 50% of poll questions in each lecture to earn participation credit for that lecture.
- You may get credit for attending the 1pm or 2pm lecture.
- If you have not arranged to get an IOLab yet you should do so right away - you will need it for Lab 1 next week.
- Purchase your smartPhysics access code from the bookstore before the DEMO period expires. Enter the code you receive in smart.physics.illinois.edu, not at flipitphysics.com.
- [DRES students] Follow these instructions to arrange your accommodations.
- Reserve your time slot for Test 1 in PrairieTest starting on Thursday January 29

Course Component Summary: In Class Activities
Lecture

Occurs twice weekly, except University Holidays (Schedule).
- Will be based on the corresponding prelecture and checkpoint. Complete these before lecture.
Discussion

There are two components:
- A group problem set, submitted as a group assignment (GradeScope)
- A skills check taken individually (PrairieTest)

Students must be on time and prepared for discussion (Course Description, Discussion).
- Students should have the required materials for Discussion at each meeting (Required Materials)
Laboratory

There are three components, worked on in small student teams:
- A pre-lab activity to help you prepare for the experimental question (smartPhysics).
- A group activity to help you build a proposal for the day's experimental question.
- A final team lab report (GradeScope).

Students must be on time and prepared for discussion (Course Description, Lab).
- Students should have the required materials for Lab at each meeting (Required Materials).

- Exams will be given at the Computer Based Testing Facility.

Excused Absences
- Please submit your excused absence no later than 12 business days after your absence via the Excused Absences application.

Registering After the First Day of Classes
If you registered after the first day of classes but before the 10th day of classes:
- It is your responsibility to contact your lecturer and organize a plan for make-up work.
- You must do this before the 8th week of classes.
