These are the tools we will be using this semester:
- Your course website: Here you will find all of the information you need to succeed this summer in PHYS 101. This includes:

- Zoom: The videoconferencing tool used for your lecture and lab sections.
- Teams:
- The desktop/mobile client is recommended. If you're using a browser, Chrome seems to work well.
- Discussion: section video conference, collaboration (formal and informal), and file sharing.
- Lab: collaboration and informal discussion.
- flipitPhysics: Your homework assignments will be completed in flipitPhysics; your labs will be distributed through flipitPhysics.
- GradeScope: Discussion--submitted for group assignments
- Media Space: Where your lecture videos will be posted for review.
- PrairieLearn: The exam and quiz system
- Queue@Illinois: Used to facilitate office hour questions and answers.
flipitPhysics
You will need to get flipitPhysics access and do the first Prelecture and Checkpoint before you go to the first lecture.
- Go to http://flipitphysics.com.
- Click on the Register button, and create an account using your < NetID@illinois.edu > email address
- Complete your profile, then click on the Enrollments Tab
- Click on the Join a Course link and enter UIP101SP21
- Enter your NetID (i.e. whatever is in front of @illinois.edu in your email address) and click Enroll Course
- You can purchase access through the U of I Bookstore bundled with the electronic book, or you can purchase just the FlipItPhysics access for 6 months through MacMillan.
You will need to join a second (FREE) FlipItPhysics class in order to have access to the course lab materials. The instructions below assume you have already signed up for FlipItPhysics as described above.
- Go to http://flipitphysics.com and log into your account, (or if you are already logged in just click the account link at the top).
- Click on the Join a Course link and enter code UIP101SP21_LAB
- Enter your NetID (e.g. whatever is in front of @illinois.edu in your email address) and click Enroll Course
Lecture
Students in the synchronous lecture must be on time and prepared for lecture. The zoom link for every lecture is different! You can find the links for each lecture on the course schedule page.
Students in the asynchronous lecture can view a recorded synchronous lecture on the mediaspace phys101 channel.
Discussion
Students must be on time and prepared for discussion.
- Log into Teams to attend your discussion section.
- You will upload your discussion problems to GradeScope for grading.
- After uploading your problems you will take a quiz by going to PrairieLearn.
Laboratory
Students must be on time and prepared for labs.
- Please review the required materials list to see what you need.
- You will do a hands-on Pre-Lab activity using your IOLab device before every lab, guided by theFlipItPhysics Lab course you signed up for above. In your weekly lab section you will work in groups to design and understand experiments and experimental data, also using your IOLab device.
- You will upload your lab reports to the gradebook by using this link.

Excused Absences
- Please submit your excused absence no later than 12 business days from your absence via the Excused Absences application.
