Because this is a new class, we (Chandra and Jeff) need your help to ensure that it meets the backgrounds, interests, and goals of its target audience.

• Please fill out this background survey before class on Thursday, August 27. (If you are joining the class late, please fill out the survey as soon as you can.)
• Homework 0 is due Tuesday, September 1.

  This homework will be graded for completion only; the correctness of your answers will not affect your final grade. Each student must work alone and submit individual solutions. Please do not consult other students, external resources, or generative AI tools to help you solve these problems. Honest good-faith effort is far more valuable to us (and ultimately to you) than complete, perfectly correct answers.
