COMMENTARY GUIDELINES
This course will have weekly readings, and you will be required to write short commentaries on them.
The goal here is to make you think critically about the readings and understand how they relate to themes of the course. Therefore, commentaries should not summarize the readings!
An excellent way to structure your commentary is to discuss one "positive" topic and one "criticism" for each reading. Each topic should be a short paragraph (about 4-5 sentences in length). In addition, each commentary should include a thoughtful discussion question.
You will submit your commentaries by posting them in the appropriate Slack channel by the beginning of class. For example, for the first week's readings, you are required to write two commentaries: one for Sam Altman's Startup Playbook and the other for Paul Graham's startup essays. Submit your commentaries on the two corresponding Slack channels: #startup-samaltman and #startup-paulgraham.
Remember that participation is an important component of the course. I expect students to attend class regularly and participate in discussions. Since we will have dedicated Slack channels for each reading, I also hope that some discussions will continue beyond the classroom and that you engage your fellow classmates on Slack.
