Lectures
================================================================

Lectures will generally cover one article per week, from the
literature on speech production, perception, and processing. When (as
often happens) an article from the literature omits most of the
relevant mathematical background, that background will be reviewed in
lecture slides, and students will be asked to do similar derivations
in the homework.

* The current plan is to review about one article per week. I plan to
state the article in different words, and give you some background
derivations that might be necessary to understand what the article's
talking about. The schedule might change if an article is too easy,
  or too hard.

* Note: you are expected to read the articles!

* Many of the links, below, lead to publisher web pages that will tell you
that you need to pay to get the article. In all such cases, you can
get the PDF of the article by copying its title into the search bar at the
`UIUC Library <https://www.library.illinois.edu/>`_, then entering your
netid when asked; the library will find the same article, and
authorize you to download the PDF.

* If there's a subject you'd like to know more about, and it's not
covered by any of the articles shown below, please ask. If you ask
early enough in the semester, it might be possible to schedule it
  in.

Lectures will be held MWF 12:00-12:50 in 3013 ECEB, and will appear on
`MediaSpace
<https://mediaspace.illinois.edu/channel/ECE+537+2022+Fall/265698412>`_
about a day later.
