Proposal

Introduction:

  • State of Purpose: Automatically winding a cable so that it does not tangle

  • Background Research:

    • Over-Under method is a way of wrapping cables that prevents them from being tangled when they are opened up. In this method, one alternates the direction in which each loop of the wrap is created. The alternating twists of the loop can easily be done by rotating the wire before creating the loop. This technique is commonly used and it would be helpful if a machine could do it.

Design:

  • Block diagram (Draw.io)

  • System Overview

    • Sensor detects cord

    • Moving grabber will pick it up and give it to stationary grabber

    • Rollers will clamp down and twist cable

    • Moving grabber will transfer it to hook

    • Process will continue while alternating rolling direction until end of wire

Parts:

  • Ultrasonic Sensor

  • Motor(s)

  • Hook

  • Rollers

  • Things that can grab the wire

  • Battery

  • Redboard

  • Wires

Challenges

  • Not exactly sure how grabbing is going to work

  • Ultrasound might be fickle

  • Working out distances between moving parts and timing

  • Wiring not behaving as it should
