Statement of Purpose

Please provide a brief description of your project. List the goals and objectives of your project and explain why this project is useful for the problem your group want to solve or functions that make your project unique. 

Due to the eradication of most online classes, we must trek to class daily. Because classrooms are far from students’ homes, students often get sweaty and smelly by the time they get to class. Professors want their classrooms smelling nice. In order to achieve this goal, our group set out to design an affordable alternative to get to class easier. We are solving the problem of personal hygiene by making a motorized children’s wagon. We feel this is a cheaper alternative than other commonly used forms of transportation. Skateboards and bikes are expensive, so we are taking a children’s wagon and attaching a motor to the back axle.

One thing that motivates us is the challenge to be able to get our kart wagon moving while holding a full-sized person. We saw many past projects that include motorized cars, but they were on a much smaller scale. We feel like we are up to the challenge of expanding this project idea to a larger scale design that might aid the issues of transport on campus. 

We have done research on the individual parts that must come together in order to form a functional motorized vehicle. Our electronic speed controller will adjust the current that passes through our motor. That ESC will take a sensor as input and pull a current from our two batteries wired in parallel. 


Gearing math:

2750_rpm x (11teeth/18teeth) = 1680.6_rpm

When rotating at max speed| 1680.6_rpm * (1/10560)miles * pi * 60min ~=  30mi/hr

Possible Challenges

Please list some of the challenges that your group foresees in working on your project.

Some possible challenges in this project include making the wagon start and stop, making the wagon turn(even if we have to resort to using a metal pole like an oar to steer.) With the new budget cuts, and places we can obtain parts from. Finding the right parts has become significantly harder.

You guys will be group #13. Keep in mind you probably don't want Ali-Express as your vendor unless you want your parts to take forever to ship.
