Statement of Purpose

Please provide a brief description of your project. List the goals and objectives of your project and explain why this project is useful for the problem your group want to solve or functions that make your project unique.

Our project is to create a remote controlled submarine. The submarine will be able to move via a controller through water. The submarine will have a camera that can be streamed to for visibility. Lights will be put around the submarine to increase visibility through the water. All the circuits and wiring will go inside of the submarine. Depending on how much of the project our group goes through we wish to add sonar sensors to the submarine. With sonar sensors we can then look into sonar mapping and potentially an AI controlled submarine.

Background Research

For the background research our group has looked at similar submarine projects online. In these projects we have looked at how the submarines ascend and descend by using pressure-based systems. We have also looked into similar rc based submarine projects. From

looking at these examples, we have learned how to efficiently fit all the major components. We also learned how to create housing for something that must be underwater, a mixture of PVC pipes and plumbing tools are used for this. For creating our flowchart we were inspired by a similar project done in the Spring of 2020.We did some research on how to control the individual motors safely. We looked at various motor drivers for servos, DC motors, and stepper motors for controlling our motors.

Possible Challenges

Please list some of the challenges that your group foresee in working on your project.

  • Buoyancy

  • Water Proofing

  • Powering the electronics

  • Mobility/degrees of movement

  • Creating a working Ballast

  • Controlling electronics

  • Learning how to use/interface with an Arduino

  • Getting Camera to stream

  • Sending data from submarine to control center, and power from ground to submarine

Comments:

We cannot order parts from Amazon or eBay. Furthermore, please include a system overview to better explain the block diagram that you have included in your proposal.

I will just echo what Shomik says. Please also add the cost of each of the parts and the total cost. Start early and test often with the mechanical design. It will take a while to get it properly waterproof.

Once you make the updates, DM me on Discord and I will re-evaluate the approval.

Hey guys, I like the updates. You are a bit over budget but maybe some of that can be fixed by searching for alternative vendors or through bulk purchases if your parts overlap with other groups.

Try to do some of that scouting for James so that he doesn't have to do it for every group.

I will approve the proposal you are group #45
