Our plan is to create an alarm clock that responds to pressure sensors placed on a bed. Once the alarm is triggered, it will not cease until the subject is no longer applying pressure on the bed (i.e. laying back down or sitting). The persistence of the alarm is intended to replace the traditional '"snooze" button that can be turned off unintentionally. It will help people get out of bed early in the morning more efficiently and punctually.

  • Today we researched and ordered some of the main parts that we will use for the foundation of our creation.
  • Created a block diagram to help us visualize component relationships.
  • What we plan on doing next week is to begin experimenting with our ECE kits and arduinos to get a feel for how they function.

Oct 5, 2015

Today we sent an email for our parts list which composed of:

  • An LCD display,
  • a load sensor combinator,
  • and four load sensors

We may need a time chip eventually for the Arduino to know the time but for now we can have it connected to a computer for that effect.

We were expecting to have our parts today but they did not come in. Alternatively, we focused on the code for our Arduino program and researched different codes that have different functions. It may prove to be difficult to compile different codes into one final code for what we want our product to do.

Oct 19, 2015

Today, we expected to have all of our parts. However, our load combinator was accidentally given to another group, and our load sensors need to be soldered before we can use them. Instead, we worked with the Arduino coding and the LCD display to figure out how to create an alarm with the LCD display.

Oct 26, 2015

Today, we successfully got the LCD setup and got it to read values. Our next goal is to get an alarm clock code running on it and figure out how to set up the load sensors to the alarm clock.

Nov 2, 2015

We attempted to test a pressure sensor in our circuit, but could not receive a valid output. Next time, we will try to fix this issue and try to connect all four pressure senors together.

Nov 9, 2015

Today, we first went into the ECE Service Shop and looked for an instrumentation amplifier. We discovered that we actually have to build one since it wasn't in the shop. Hopefully, we can solve the issue with making the circuit with the load sensors, so that we may continue connecting the pressure sensors with the alarm clock and complete our project.

Nov 16, 2015

Today we worked on how we will build the instrumental amplifier for our load sensor circuit. Once we have this done, we may continue working on testing out the pressure sensors. And after, we will connect the load sensor circuit to the alarm clock circuit and refine it all together.

Nov 30, 2015

We continued working on the instrumental amplifier circuit. We are planning to hopefully meet up sometime this week so that we can attempt to complete the whole project by next Monday.

Dec 7, 2015

Today, we are presenting our project. We hope to do very well. We also celebrated Maziar's birthday.

Comments:

Good idea, keep in mind that you should probably implement a timing aspect to your project so that the user can't just hop out of bed and then get right back in and fall asleep again!

Make sure to be updating  this page each week. Some things to add could be parts you are looking at or diagrams of the circuit once you start building!
