Introduction
Every morning we wake up, brush our teeth, take a shower, etc. with the mundane object known as a mirror standing around. After searching across the web, we came to find a project known as MagicMirror, which increases the usefulness of the everyday mirror tenfold. In addition to reflecting your image back to you, it can also project important information such as the time, date, weather, messages, etc. for you to see. We were hoping to gain experience in manufacturing, electronics, and programming through the creating of our very own MagicMirror. A major difference we wanted to pursue during the manufacturing process of our mirror, is that the mirror should "wake up" whenever the user walks in front of it, to conserve energy.
Materials
- Observation mirror
- 24” monitor with inputs on sides
- Raspberry Pi 3
- microSD card
- HDMI Cable
- USB to microUSB cable
- Power cable for monitor
- Motion sensor
Manufacturing Process
- Remove the casing of the monitor
- Measure dimensions of monitor with mirror
- Create casing for mirror, raspberry pi, and monitor based on dimensions
- Install Raspbian on Raspberry Pi
- Install MagicMirror interface
- Modify interface to wake up mirror when motion is detected
The raspberry pi will control the mirror’s processing and will send information to the monitor to project to the mirror. Motion sensor will activate the display only when there is a person nearby. |

- Keeping secure internet connection for Pi to get data continuously
