1. Introduction

1. Statement of purpose.

1. Our project is a fingerprint scanning garage door opener. Currently, there are many garage door openers on the market which generally require typing in a code or pushing a button. Our vision is to improve on current garage door opening methods by implementing fingerprint technology. We want to create a device which can be compatible with modern garage doors, is easy to install, and can accurately and effectively recognize and store fingerprints. We hope our design can achieve these goals with easy and efficient user experience.  

1. Background Research

1. We have learned a fair amount during our initial research phase. We found an affordable fingerprint scanner and garage door opener to connect it to and understand that our project can successfully be completed in an appropriate budget. We recognize that one of our largest problems is coding the scanner itself. However, we have found some examples of code that other people have used in similar projects and think that that coupled with our own work can create a successful product.     

2. Block Diagram

The basic premise of the project is using the fingerprint sensor to take an input. The ATtiny85 processes the signal and can do many things with it like store new inputs or verify an input. The ATtiny85 then sends the appropriate output (continue along the circuit, re-prompt) which would pass trough the voltage regulator which then triggers the garage door opener.
