Statement of Purpose

The purpose of our project is to improve transportation among the human population, more specially college students traveling far distances on campus. We will be designing and attempting to create a electric powered shoe to decrease time of travel and fatigue.

Background Research

Our basic motivation on this project is to integrate the knowledge we learned from ECE 110 and the course of ECE 120. With our project for the honors lab, we plan on deepening our understanding on Arduino. While we need to control the shoe through a cell phone or other devices, this could still be a challenge for our capability of coding. Moreover, some engineers are doing similar projects as we are getting into, so there is some online tutorial we can refer to.

System Overview

Our project is based in a pair of shoes. We plan to add a pair of wheels to each shoe which is activated and remote controlled by an app on the ios platform. Another feature that we hope to add would be an automatic braking system which utililizes an infrared sensor to sense approaching obstacles. the arduino board will work as the main controlling system which receives the signal via Bluetooth and controls the motors.

List of parts:

Arduino MEGA 2560

Sparkfun H-bridge Motor drivers

Wheels

Arduino Bluetooth module HC-05

Motors

Battery

Wire

shoes

Possible Challenges

Design and code the application to control the drone including a function to let it stop, move forward, turn direction and convey an image.

Design the circuit of Arduino to control each system and connect it into local Android devices.

I am a little confused about the physical design of your project. Will the wheels on the shoes but on the sole, or off to the side? Are you building a pair of powered shoes, or will only one show in the pair be powered?

If you could, please expand your proposal with a little more information about the physical layout and details of your design.

You need much more information about the physical construction of this device. In addition, you're going to need more information about the motors you're using. If this is actually going to be propelling humans, there's going to be some serious motor power going on. You need to research that some more.
