Grad Project Stage C
Deliverables:
Final Report:
- Format: 10-20 pages, in any
reasonable, readable formatting.
- For your topic, your report should
address the following questions: What is the topic? What are the issues/challenges
it aims to address? Why is it important and of great interest? What is the
state of the art (in industry and in academic research)? Any observations,
implications, and your recommendations? What is your personal opinions and
assessment? Future outlook?
- Your report should represent the
breadth of the state of the art. You should broadly survey what's
happening, and your report should be based on an extensive set of
references (and not just one single source). You can draw references from
any credible sources-- you are, however, responsible for the credibility.
Give clear citations to references.
- Your report should capture the
depth in a few selected areas of the state of the art.
- What makes a good report? Criteria:
- Is it interesting? Write your report with readers'
interest in mind. As if you are telling a "story"-- so that
readers can read it through with interest.
- Is it informative? Present the state of the art with
both broadth (the big picture) and depth (the details)-- so that we learn
useful knowledge and be inspired by your report.
Presentation Slides:
- Prepare a 20-25
minutes presentation, in the style of a lecture.
- The purpose of your presentation is
to teach the class what you have learned in your survey, in a fun way. Your
presentation should be consistent with and based on your report, as a
selective highlight.
- What makes a good presentation? We
would like to see a good presentation with the following criteria. Note
that you really don't need to tell us everything you surveyed; instead,
you should compile, organize, and highlight things that are particularly
interesting and informative to know.
- Is it interesting? -- Deliver your presentation in a
way that your audience can watch it through, and enjoy it! Be concrete and
specific-- use examples: example scenarios, example code, or whatever
make things intuitive to see the picture. Be insightful: highlight the
gist of what you have learned, and make your personal and
down-to-the-earth observations.
- Is it informative? -- Teach the class what you have
learned in the special topic. Highlight the useful knowledge. Make your
own statements-- Tell us your observation and implications.
Submission Instruction:
- Submit a hardcopy of report and
slides in the same way that you submit your homeworks by 11:59pm.
- Do NOT email your report and slides.
