Regrades and PrairieLearn Problems
We try to write questions with no errors and to grade with perfect accuracy. But, of course, we are only human. Mistakes happen and need to be corrected.
The PrairieLearn testing interface is not working right
When taking a test in the CBTF, save your work frequently for open-answer questions. Save it even more frequently as the end of the exam window approaches. Do not wait until the last minute to start transcribing handwritten work into the computer interface. When time runs out, unsaved work on open-answer questions will be lost and we cannot retrieve it for you. We will not grade your handwritten work.
Occasionally a question fails in some other way, e.g. the question won't display or you can't input your answer. In this case, click the "Report an error in this question" button on the PrairieLearn question and describe what went wrong.
If something else goes wrong with the testing interface in the CBTF, talk to a proctor and have them file an incident report.
The interface is working but a multiple-choice answer seems incorrect
Stop and think first. You probably don't want to hear this, but you are probably misreading the prompt or misinterpreting the question. Read it again slowly. Check special cases which might behave in odd ways. Take a break and come back to it later. (This works better on homework, but you can do it somewhat even on exams.)
If it's still not making sense, talk to us at office hours or on the Discord.
I disagree with how my open-answer question was graded
Try these steps, in order:
- Look at the grader comments, compare your answer to the model solution, and try to figure out what went wrong. At least, isolate the main differences between your answer and the model.
- Talk to us at office hours or on the Discord.
- Use the "Report an error in this question" button on the PrairieLearn question to file a regrade request.
Regrade requests must be filed within a week after we release the graded exam to you. If you were unable to submit it on time for some compelling reason (e.g. serious illness), include the details in your regrade request.
Your request must explain specifically why you believe that the grading is incorrect. Or, if your problem is that the grader comments are insufficient, explain which point deductions seem to need more feedback. Vague regrade requests such as "please look at this again because I think I deserve more points" will be immediately returned to you with a request for more detail.
