Lecture 2
We discussed some issues from the quiz:
- Less common ways to phrase "if p, then q"
- Meaning of "neither p nor q"
- Difference between contrapositive and converse
- Negation of "p and q"
We also did exercises on
- Chained implication
- Making formulas from truth tables
Announcements
- You should now be reading Piazza and have done today's
pre-lecture reading and quiz. If that isn't the case, see
the notes for the first lecture.
- Reminder of pre-lecture readings/quiz for Tuesday.
Also remember to get started on the math prerequisites quiz
before the last minute.
- We expect pre-lecture quizzes for Tuesdays to be available
Friday afternoon, and quizzes for Thursdays to be available
Tuesday afternoon.
- If you log on to moodle and don't see 173 listed, look for

to get added to 173 by hand.
- HW 1 is posted, due next Wednesday.
- Interesting freshman seminar (limited enrollment)
- We collected names of folks who are still trying to get officially
into the class.
- If you want to take the proficiency exam, sign up by Thursday.
- No discussion sections this week. (They start next week.)
