CS173: Discrete Structures

Spring 2010   Fleck and Kumar

Welcome to CS 173, Spring 2010!

Update: This week's office hours are rearranged due to the 2nd midterm exam on Wednesday evening. They will be:
Tuesday: 3-5pm Viraj
Wednesday: notice that the two lectures are (optional) exam review.
11am-12pm Samer
3:30-4:30pm Chen
4-5pm Andrew
Note: Thursday/Friday office hours are cancelled, except for Margaret's 10am one.

There will be no discussion sections the first week of classes, because MLK Day wipes out all the Monday sections. So our first meeting will be the lecture on Wednesday.

The proficiency exam is scheduled for 2-4pm on Saturday the 23rd in 3401 Siebel. Please email Margaret Fleck (mfleck@illinois.edu) if you are interested in taking it, so I can get an approximate headcount and get final details (especially the room) to everyone.

The proficiency exam will be similar to last term's final, except shorter (2 hours) and somewhat less specific to the exactly what we covered last term. See the study materials on last term's exam page. To pass the exam, you should know how to write simple proofs including inductive ones and show good grasp of most (but not necessarily all) the topics covered.

Most course announcements will be posted on the class newsgroup. Subscribe now and read it frequently. Only a few, very critical, announcements will be posted on this main page.
