Information on midterm grades ============================= In compass, you'll find two columns related to midterm grades. "Midterm average" contains a weighted average of HW1-4, quiz 1, and the first midterm. The three components are weighted by the percentages for all homeworks, all quizzes, and all exams in the final grading formula, since the idea is to estimate your likely final grade. "Midterm grade" is a letter grade calculated from the midterm averages. The main letter grade breaks are A- >= 90 B- >= 80 C- >= 70 D- >= 55 For the purpose of calculating midterm averages, if you had an excused absence from quiz 1, I interpolated a grade using your midterm 1 grade. (For the final grades, I'll use quiz 2 and quiz 3 instead.) A couple people had missing homeworks due to unusual excuses. These create major issues for midterm averages, because the missing homework is out of only four homeworks. So I fiddled the values in the "HW 1-4 average" column. Again, I'll make smarter adjustments for these issues at the end of the term.
