Freshman introduction to engineering mechanics and its role in modern engineering analysis and design. Project activity. 1 undergraduate hour. Fall semester only.

Topics:

Introduction to engineering mechanics
Basic notions of force, stress, displacement, strain (2 hr)
Engineering applications in solid mechanics and materials (3 hr)
Engineering applications in fluid mechanics and dynamics (3 hr)
Opportunities (job placement, graduate study) (2 hr)
Role of undergraduate societies, co-ops, involvement (1 hr)

Design project
Design specifications, team participation (1 hr)
Report guidance, completion, presentation (2 hr)
Evaluation and feedback (1 hr)
