The Midterm will take place at the Material Science and Engineering Building #119 (NOT in our usual classroom) at the the regularly scheduled class time on Thursday, 3/10/2022, starting 11:00 am (click the links for maps). Please arrive a bit early.

In accordance with the university policies, everyone must wear a mask during the exam (the University’s mask policy for exams is the same as for classes).

The exam will cover the material in lectures 1-11 (including Fresnel Equations, Reflectance and Transmittance). It is an open book exam and may be taken with the assistance of any material on physical papers, including the textbook, homework, lecture notes, your notes, etc.. Calculators are also allowed. Any other electronics is not allowed (no laptops, phones, tablets...).

For those of you who are too used to take notes with your tablets and/or laptops – please do not forget to bring pens!

Here is link to a sample midterm exam from a past semester, with the solutions. This is to give you a hint of the expectations and the length of the exam.

A general advice: when writing exam problems, I am assuming that students know how to solve all of the HW problems and understand the posted solutions – make sure that this assumption is correct!

Here are Review Slides that cover the material for the Midterm Exam. It is not a complete review, but students in the past indicated that they were helpful for studying and during the exam (just like any material, you will need to print them if you wish to bring them to the exam).

Good Luck!
