NPRE 498 NC3 - Nuclear Chemical Engineering

Subject offerings of new and developing areas of knowledge in nuclear, plasma, and radiological engineering intended to augment the existing curriculum. See Class Schedule or departmental course information for topics and prerequisites. Course Information: 1 to 4 undergraduate hours. 1 to 4 graduate hours. May be repeated in the same or separate terms if topics vary.

Section Description

Introduction to the chemical engineering aspects for the design and operation of advanced nuclear reactors. Course content includes fundamentals of thermodynamics, electrochemistry, corrosion, gas analysis, and isotope separation. Topics will be presented using case studies relevant to nuclear technology, with a focus on systems employing high-temperature, non-aqueous liquids. Prerequisites: CHEM 102; credit or concurrent registration in ME 200 and MATH 285; or instructor approval.
