Section Description

This course engages students in learning systems thinking skills to enhance their effectiveness as globally minded leaders and engineers. Students will examine the role of engineering mindsets as both drivers and challenges to social innovation. They will explore problems and solutions related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and consider how cultural and contextual factors impact their problem analysis and identification of levers for change. Includes a short-term study abroad in South Korea, where students will learn about social innovation practices in a new cultural context and have opportunities to apply course content and reflect on how social innovators lead change and technological innovation in a global setting. Students will visit companies and organizations engaged in social innovation and SDG-related work and immerse in a variety of cultural experiences.
