ENG 298 SED - STEM Education Practicum

Subject offerings of new and developing areas of knowledge in engineering intended to augment the existing curriculum. See Class Schedule or college course information for topics and prerequisites. Course Information: Approved for both letter and S/U grading. May be repeated in the same or separate terms if topics vary.

Section Description

In this service-learning course, students get experience providing engaging math and science lessons to a diverse group of middle school students from local and Chicago Public Schools. The course includes discussion of topics related to issues of diversity in STEM education, curriculum design, and working with young and diverse populations. This outreach program is part of the ICANEXSEL (Illinois-ChiS&E Alliance for Nurturing Excellence in STEM Education and Leadership) initiative. Course participants must commit to 12 hours of field experiences, some of which will take place in Chicago on Saturdays (transportation to/from Chicago will be provided).
