Students will learn, from an engineer?s point of view, the theory and practice behind safely operating a 2-Axis CNC Turning Center. This course expands on the tooling geometry, speed, and capabilities covered in the manual turning class, ENG 199ML1, as well as part design, toolpath generation using CAD/CAM systems, machine navigation, and special tooling for CNC machines. Students will also turn several test parts within specified tolerances. This course is designed, in part, to help engineers understand manufacturability and processes involved in realizing their designs. Prerequisite: ENG 199 ML1, Intro to Turning for Engineers. Meeting dates will be arranged with instructor. Meets Monday from either 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm or 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm for 12 weeks, Course takes place in the Engineering Senior Design Lab.
