Sakshi Srivastava

PhD Student and ECE 199: MERIT 110 TA

Sakshi is in the PhD program at ECE Illinois, where she also got her BS and MS degrees from in 2015 and 2017 respectively. She works in the Electromagnetics lab and studies Antenna design. She was the driving force behind the Quintessential Engineer Statue on campus. She is also one of the contributors to the book- Women and Ideas in Engineering: Twelve stories from Illinois. She enjoys running, hiking and public speaking- she has given a TEDx talk. In her free time, she likes to play the Guitar and sing.

Gavin Chan

Junior in Electrical Engineering and ECE 199: MERIT 110 Course Aide

Gavin is a junior in electrical engineering. He is currently interested in signal progressing, electromagnetics, and design. In his free time, Gavin enjoys photography, playing the piano, and hiking.

Corey Snyder

3rd year PhD Candidate and ECE 199: MERIT 120 TA

Corey received his B.S. in EE from UIUC in 2018 and is continuing towards his PhD in ECE. His research interests include non-supervised machine learning, explainable AI, and signal processing. Outside of work, Corey enjoys playing guitar, cooking, and browsing pictures of corgis.

Madeline Shunk

Junior in Computer Engineering and ECE 199: MERIT 120 Course Aide

Madeline is a Junior in Computer Engineering. She is also a member of HKN and Secretary of the UIUC chapter of the Harry Potter Alliance. This summer she interned with the Army Corp of Engineers CERL here in Champaign. When she was a Freshman, she took ECE 199 for both ECE 120 and ECE 110. She enjoyed it so much that she is helping out with Merit this semester.

Chris Schmitz

Teaching Associate Professor and Chief Undergraduate Academic Advisor; Course Director for ECE 110

Chris is a three-time graduate of the University of Illinois with focus in signal processing, wireless communication, and undergraduate education. He encourages undergraduates to learn by taking a hands-on approach from the early stages of their college education. In his free time, he enjoys outdoor activities with his wife and four children, raises honeybees, and builds or repairs just about anything you can imagine.

Joan Brown

Academic Advisor and Self-proclaimed dog, gaming, and cooking fanatic

Joan is an alumna of UIUC and earned her B.S. in EE in 2016. As an undergraduate she pursued coursework and research in bioimaging and signal progressing, while enjoying her time in the Marching Illini and performing outreach through Engineering Ambassadors. Happiest when working with and advocating for students, she joined the ECE department as an Academic Advisor in 2018.
