Intro to Human-Centered AI examines how AI systems can be designed and evaluated to better support human goals, values, and decision-making from an HCI perspective. The course focuses on how people understand, interact with, and are affected by AI in real-world settings, covering topics such as human?AI interaction, explainability, user autonomy and agency, algorithmic decision-making, fairness and bias, and designing AI for various populations. Through lectures, paper discussions, and a hands-on project, students will critically analyze existing AI systems and apply human-centered design and evaluation methods to create more responsible and effective AI experiences.
